Kappara: Removal of the central strip

In the coming days, Kappara contractor will remove the central strip in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli.  Works will commence today after 20:30hrs. During the night, road will be on reduced lanes in both directions. During the day, one lane will be closed direction to Imsida, at times.

To avoid complete road closure and inconvenience, the central strip will be removed in a sequence of stretches. During works on the central strip, the existing electricity poles will also be shifted. This means that a separate traffic plan will not be required to dismantle the electricity poles.

Transport Malta reminds that Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli is a construction site. Drivers are encouraged to  abide to the restricted speed limit of 30km/hr, follow temporary signs and respect workers on site.  We also encourage drivers to visit news.transport.gov.mt to get familiar with alternative routes and avoid the area.

Kappara: Works in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli

As part of the investigations on the foundation material and Enemalta cable works, the contractor responsible for the Kappara project will excavate trial pits in parts of Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli. 

Works will be carried out tomorrow between 09:00hrs and 12:30hrs.  During works, one lane from the roundabout direction to Paceville will be closed to traffic but vehicles can proceed on the other lanes. 

This is a construction site. Drive with caution, follow temporary traffic signs and officials’ instructions when going through this area.

Paceville Traffic Lights

Works to improve traffic lights at the junction in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli

Transport Malta will carry out trenching works at the traffic lights junction in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, tonight between 21:00hrs and 05:00hrs.

During works, part of Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli will be closed to traffic. Meanwhile, traffic coming from Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq will proceed at the roundabout in Triq Gort and back to Triq M.A. Vassalli to continue with the normal route. Traffic to St Paul’s Bay will not be affected.

Drivers are to proceed with caution.

New traffic arrangements in San Ġwann

Kappara: alternative routes

Following the completion of roadworks in Vjal ir-Rihan San Ġwann, Transport Malta will implement line markings and new signage between 19:00hrs today and 07:00hrs tomorrow morning.

As from Saturday 18^th after 07:00hrs, traffic from Triq Tal-Balal will be diverted onto Triq Salvu Busuttil, onto Triq Caruana Dingli and onto Vjal ir-Rihan. Access to the service road at Vjal ir-Rihan will only be permitted from Triq Caruana Dingli. Parking along the service road will be re-organised according to the new traffic flow.

These traffic arrangements are part of the alternative routes during works on the Kappara Project.

Kappara: Works for electricity cable crossing

Kappara contractor will be constructing a jointing bay in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli as from tomorrow.  Enemalta engineers will eventually use the jointing bay to join electricity cables from Imsida side of the road to Enemalta’s Distribution Centre, on the other side.  The Works will help ensure a constant electricity supply for the area during the works.

The contractor will start the job tomorrow at 09:00hrs.  Part of one lane of three in the direction to Paceville will be closed to traffic for some days.

Green Vehicles Grant re-launched

Transport Malta re-opens Grant Scheme on the Purchase of New Environment-Friendly Vehicles and extends the Grant Scheme on the Purchase of Electric Vehicles to include Local Councils

Transport Malta, in conjunction with the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, is extending the current scheme in the form of a grant to incentivise the purchase of Battery Electric Vehicles and Battery Electric Quadricycles. Following the success of the scheme launched last January, a further €100,000 has been allocated and the scheme has now been extended to include Local Councils.

This scheme is aimed at reducing the number of old motor vehicles from the road while promoting the use of clean and energy efficient vehicles as a way to contribute towards the  reduction of traffic generated pollution and   improvement of  air quality levels.

A grant of €4,000 will be given to persons registering a new or used electric car and €2,000 to those registering a new or used electric quadricyle. The grant shall increase from €4,000 to €7,000 in cases of persons registering a new Battery Electric Vehicle while at the same time opting to de-register another internal combustion engine propelled vehicle which is at least 10 years old from the year of its manufacture.

The scheme is also open to both new and second hand Battery Electric Vehicles which should not exceed 12,000 km on the odometer and would not be more than 24 months old.

In addition, Transport Malta and the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure is also launching two new grants to further promote Electromobility.

Purchase and Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Pillars for the Business Community and NGOs

The Government in conjunction with Transport Malta is launching a new scheme to incentivise the Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Pillars for the Business Community and NGOs.

The scheme is aimed assisting market entry of the electric vehicle charging technology and to assist business undertakings and NGOs to switch to cleaner vehicle technology, by assisting the increase in technology available to recharge car batteries.

The grant will amount to a maximum of €2,000 per electric vehicle charging pillar. Every eligible entity can install more than one electric vehicle charging pillar but shall be entitled to only one ‘total’ grant under this scheme which will be inclusive for up to a maximum of five (5) charging pillars. A company may install the pillars specifically for its use or for the use of its clients.

Government Grant for the Upgrading of New Plug-in Electric Vehicle Importers’ Service Centres and Staff Training

Another new scheme that the Government, in conjunction with Transport Malta, is launching is a scheme to incentivise the Upgrading of Electric Vehicle Service Garages established within new plug-in EV Car Importers.

The scheme is aimed at assisting the market entry of the new plug-in electric vehicles in the Maltese Islands which are not yet available on the national market and to assist car importers to start offering Support Servicing on their sold EVs. This will prompt private persons, the business community and NGOs to switch to cleaner vehicle technology, especially since with such a scheme vehicle servicing can be done locally.

The grant will amount to a maximum of €25,000 per Car Importer. The scheme is for a grant intended for established new-Car Importers and their current Service Garages to cater for the maintenance of new Plug-in Electric Vehicle models currently both on the Maltese car market and new vehicles intended to be introduced on the Maltese new car market. The grant can also be used for/or in conjunction with staff training and re-training.

All applications will be handled on a first come first served basis.

These are other initiatives of the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure and Transport Malta as part of Government policy to promote the use of clean and energy efficient vehicles.

Over the last few years Government had published its policy to promote the introduction of    electromobility in Malta with the publication of the Malta National Electromobility Action Plan (MNEAP) and the set up of the Malta National Electromobility Platform (MNEP).

Vehicle and licences; from Floriana to Paola

 

 The vehicle and licensing units of Transport Malta are moving from Floriana to A3 Towers in Paola, on Monday.

Clients who want to register, transfer, garage or scrap a vehicle must visit Transport Malta’s new offices in Triq l-Arkata, Paola.

 Clients who need to apply for the driver’s license or renew it must also go to Paola.

 Driving licence tests will remain in Floriana.

 

For the first time Transport Malta will have a dedicated office for customer care.  The Authority is also providing better parking facilities with an area close to Addolorata Cemetery’s parking lot.

The authority is working on a programme to have more of its services available online.  The public can use more of Transport Malta’ s services from the comfort of their homes.

Resurfacing of Kirkop Junction

Transport Malta will resurface Kirkop Junction.  Works will start tonight and continue the following night.  On both nights, works will start at 20:30 and finish early in the morning to minimise traffic disruption.

The junction will remain accessible to vehicles but parts of the carriageways will be restricted at different times.  

Kindly avoid the area when possible. Follow the temporary signs and official’s instructions.

Works in Swieqi

Transport Malta have commissioned works on the service road of Triq il-Qasam, Swieqi to improve the traffic flow. Contractor will start works tomorrow morning.

No parking will be allowed along the road.  Traffic going through Triq Sant’ Andrija in Pembroke will not be affected.
