Line markings in St. Julian’s and Birkirkara

Painting of line markings will be carried out in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli St. Julian’s, from the tunnels up to Paceville junction and in Triq in-Naxxar Birkirkara.

Works in Triq in-Naxxar Birkirkara will be carried out tomorrow between 08:00hrs and 17:00hrs.  No road closure will take place however, during works, Triq il-Wied Birkirkara direction to Naxxar, may be temporarily closed to traffic and vehicles will be diverted onto Triq il-Wied Ħal Balzan.

Works in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli San Ġiljan will be carried out on Friday 1^st April between 08:00hrs and 17:00hrs.  No road closure will take place.

Drivers are to follow instructions by the officials on site.

Tidal Lane works continue tonight

Works on Tidal Lane at Vjal Sir Paul Boffa

Works at Vjal Sir Paul Boffa Raħal Ġdid will continue tonight.

Vjal Sir Paul Boffa will be closed to traffic direction to Raħal Ġdid tonight between 21:00hrs and 05:00hrs. Vehicular traffic, including public transport, proceeding towards the centre of Raħal Ġdid, will be diverted onto Vjal Santa Luċija and onto Triq Ħal Luqa.  Light vehicles may also proceed through Triq il-Palma.

Traffic bollards will be installed direction to Valletta between Tuesday 29th March and Saturday 2nd April from 09:00hrs to 15:00hrs. During works, the road will be accessible but slow traffic is expected.

We apologise for any inconvenience and remind all drivers to follow road signage and traffic regulations.

Maintenance in Skate Park area

Maintenance works in Triq Reġjonali u Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli

Maintenance works will be carried out in Triq Reġjonali and Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli (near Skate Park roundabout). 

Works which include scarifying, resurfacing and asphalting will be carried out between today and the 23^rd March 2016; between 20:00hrs and 05:00hrs each night.

Works in Triq Reġjonali will be carried out today. Traffic proceeding from the tunnels of Santa Venera towards Birkirkara, will be diverted onto the slip road to Triq il-Wied and onto the slip road leading to Triq Reġjonali. The Slip road from Triq Reġjonali to Triq Dun Karm Birkirkara will be completely closed to traffic.

Works in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli will be carried out on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd March. Road to Imsida will be closed to traffic direction to the University roundabout. Drivers are advised to follow alternative routes.

Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

Preparing for Kappara – San Ġwann

Maintenance works in Triq Birkirkara San Ġwann

Preparatory works related to the Kappara Junction Project will continue in San Ġwann.

Resurfacing works will be carried out in Triq Birkirkara and the junction in the same road, today and tomorrow, from 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs.  

Traffic coming from Triq L-Imrabat to San Ġwann  will be diverted onto Triq is-Sorijiet, Triq il-Qalb Imqaddsa and onto Triq Birkirkara. Traffic from Vjal ir-Rihan to Triq L-Imrabat will be diverted onto Triq Birkirkara, Triq Tas-Sliema towards Kappara roundabout, onto Triq Tas-Sliema Gżira towards Triq D’Argens. 

Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

Developing public transport

Transport Malta encourages further advancement in public transport.

 Transport Malta welcomes Malta Public Transport’s latest initiatives and urges them to keep working on improving their service.

 The mobile app for public transport is a step in the right direction.  The app will help users access information they need and will them plan their journey better.  Transport Malta will keep insisting on information, punctuality and reliability of the service.

 Malta Public Transport is showing that it is responding to commuter needs when expanding its fleet with 33 new buses for summer. The tourist season proved taxing on the service last year. MPT’s initiative to import a significant number of new buses will surely improve the service. The operator is also developing their driver training further.  Transport Malta encourages better driver training and better working conditions for drivers; they are the ones who are delivering the service.

 More people are becoming better accustomed to the new routes as better information becomes available.  The new route network is historically the most extensive public transport network on the Islands and provides connections to areas that were previously unreachable by bus. Transport Malta will remain vigilant to commuter needs and will keep calibrating the network through minor adjustments when needed.

 A 7% increase in passengers over last year shows that public transport is slowly becoming more alluring.  Transport Malta will keep working to make public transport a better alternative.

Line Markings tonight

Tonight, Transport Malta will be refreshing road markings on the slip road from Santa Venera Tunnels towards Marsa.  Works will start at 20:00. No road will be closed.  Transport Malta urges drivers to be careful and safeguard workers on site.

Students have their say

The Malta Road Safety Council met students of St. Nicholas College in Rabat to hear their opinion on road safety.  Road safety awareness is imperative from a very young age.

Hon. Joe Mizzi, the minister for Transport and Infrastructure attended the event to hear what the students had to say.

During works, traffic from Triq il-Kulleġġ will be diverted onto Triq Sant’Enriku onto Triq Camenzuli onto Triq l-Imrabat and onto Triq Birkirkara.

Vandalised!

Park and Ride equipment vandalised again

 During the night, vandals damaged the bus shelter and the pay machine at the Park and Ride in Blata l-Bajda.  The vandals managed to rip open the pay machine and departed with some cash.  The police are investigating.  A few weeks ago, vandals had already targeted the same site. 

 Transport Malta is taking the necessary steps to install a new pay machine.  In the meantime, the Park and Ride will keep operating as usual.

Building Careers

TM's outreach to secondary schools

Transport Malta participated in BPW’s career day. An initiative organised by Business and Professional Women – Malta, under the patronage of the Office of the President.

On Friday 4th March, Transport Malta provided guidance and information to girls from various secondary schools from Malta and Gozo. The event held in the Millenium Stand at Ta’ Qali, provided the students with a unique opportunity to learn about careers in the Maritime, Aviation, Roads and Corporate Services sectors.

Marisa Micallef a Flag and Port State Inspector and Lorraine Cutajar, a Port Duty Officer gave students an insight on career opportunities within the Maritime industries.  Melanie Waddell, a Flight Operations Inspector, did the same for the Aviation industry.

Mary Rose Pace, Financial Controller, Roberta Cilia, Training and Development Manager, Nighat John Akhtar, Training Coordinator and Jeanette Axisa, Chief Officer, shared their valuable experience within the Corporate Services Directorate.

There was a healthy exchange of information between Transport Malta’s operatives, students and guidance teachers, on academic and specialised qualifications required to pursue and build a career in the transport sector.  

 This is part of various initiatives TM is pursuing to build the necessary skills and competences needed at present and in the future.  Other initiatives are being undertaken with MCAST and the University of Malta.  A pilot project was launched  about 12 months ago, introducing apprentices at the Roads and Infrastructure Directorate and the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit.  The apprenticeship programme is being expanded in line with the requirements of other Directorates. 

This week, school boys attending Maria Regina School will be visiting our Maritime and Civil Aviation Directorates to learn about these industries.  An activity that will broaden their career paths.
